Lucien Wercollier - 100th anniversary

© Photo: Christophe Weber

The sculptor Lucien Wercollier was one of the most important Luxembourgish modernist artists of the post-WWII period and this year is the 100th anniversary of his birth.

The aim was to celebrate this occasion with a permanent exhibition showing a rich selection of his work, a newly edited documentary and a series of replicas inviting the visitor to a tactile discovery of his shapes & volumes.

The exhibition is not structured in a chronological order, the sculptures being re-grouped in themes and subjects pursued by the artist throughout his life. This allowed us to show his work in a different & new light, exposing a rich and diverse body of work.

The restrictions of the given space ultimately enabled us to create clearly separate islands, each of them telling another story of the artist and his work.

The overall aim of the exhibition is also to cement his position as a leading 20th century artist in Luxembourg and to give the public a chance to re-discover his work from a new angle.
